What to put on a marketing CV

Marketing CVs are read by people who judge communication for a living, so the CV is a small piece of marketing in its own right: clear, well laid out and focused on results. Roles run from marketing assistant and digital marketing executive to social media, content, brand and marketing manager.

Hiring managers look for the channels you know, the tools you use and what your campaigns achieved.

Whatever the job, the UK CV format applies: your name and contact details, a short profile, experience with the most recent first, then education and skills. No photo, age or date of birth.

  1. A profile with your specialism

Content, social, SEO, paid media, email, brand or all-round, the sector you know, and one result that shows what you can do.

  2. Channels and tools

SEO, paid search, paid social, email and CRM, content and events, with tools such as GA4, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Meta Ads Manager and Canva.

  3. Results

Traffic, leads, conversion rate, cost per lead, return on ad spend or engagement, with the period. Use percentages if the real figures are confidential.

  4. Budget and team

The budget you manage and the people or agencies you brief.

  5. Portfolio and qualifications

A link to your work, and CIM, Google Ads, HubSpot or Meta certifications with the year.

Marketing CVs: your questions

Should I include a portfolio with a marketing CV?

If you write, design or run social media, yes: a link to a simple portfolio with three to five pieces of work, each with the brief and the result. For performance roles, a short case study with real numbers works better.

Can a marketing CV be creative?

A little. Colour and a tidy layout show care, but the content still needs to be easy to scan. For large companies that recruit online, use a one-column design and keep the creativity for your portfolio.

How do I show results without sharing confidential figures?

Use percentages and changes over time instead of revenue, for example growth over a period or a fall in cost per lead. Never share anything your employer has asked you to keep private.
