What is aCV?
CV is short for curriculum vitae. It’s a short document, one page for your first one, that tells an employer who you are, what you’ve done and what you’re good at. You send it when you apply for a job, an apprenticeship or a college place.
You and how to reach you
Your name, your town, a phone number and an email address. That’s all the contact detail an employer needs.
A short profile
Two or three sentences about you and what you’re looking for. We write a first version from your answers.
School or college
Where you study, or studied, and your GCSEs or other courses. Predicted grades are fine if you don’t have your results yet.
Things you’ve done
Part-time jobs, volunteering, clubs, sport, helping out at home. Anything where you were trusted to do something counts.
Strengths and interests
Five to eight things you’re good at, and a few things you enjoy. They help an employer picture you in the job.
You’ve donemorethan you think
No job yet? That’s normal. All of these belong on a first CV, and each one tells an employer something good about you.

Yourquestionsanswered
I’ve never had a job. Can I still make a CV?
Yes. Most people making their first CV haven’t had a job yet. School, volunteering, clubs, sport, helping out at home and things you’ve made all show an employer what you can do.
I don’t have my GCSE results yet. What do I put?
Put your predicted grades and say they’re predicted. Employers and colleges see this all the time. You can update your CV when your results come in.
How long should my first CV be?
One page is perfect. Short and clear is better than long.
Do I need a photo, or to say how old I am?
No. Employers don’t need your age or a photo on your CV, so we never ask for them. If an employer needs to check your age, for example for the hours you can work, they’ll ask you separately.
How do I send it?
Download it as a PDF and attach it when you apply online. For shops and cafes, you can also print a copy and hand it in.
