When a graduate CV template works best

When you have little work experience, your qualifications, projects and part-time jobs are your best evidence. These designs move education to the top, give skills a clear place and make a short work history look complete rather than thin.

Starter is made for school leavers and first part-time jobs, with grades up front. Cambridge puts a degree and skills side by side, and Bristol adds a colour header and a ticked skills list.

  1. Put education first

Your degree, A levels or GCSEs are your strongest evidence for now. Add grades where they help, and a dissertation or project that fits the job.

  2. Everything counts as experience

Part-time jobs, volunteering, placements, societies and sports teams all show something. Say what you did and what changed because of it.

  3. Keep it to one page

One full page is better than two thin ones when you are starting out.

  4. Tailor the profile

Name the job or scheme you are applying for, and one or two strengths you can back up.

Graduate and student CV templates: your questions

What should a student CV include?

Your contact details, a short profile, education with grades, any work or volunteering, skills and, if they help, interests. Leave out your age, date of birth and a photo.

Should education go before experience on a graduate CV?

Usually, yes, until your work experience is the stronger evidence for the job you want. These designs put education near the top for that reason.

Can I make a CV if I have never had a job?

Yes. School, clubs, volunteering and helping out all count. Our first CV tool asks a few easy questions and turns your answers into a proper CV.
