Healthcare assistants (HCAs) work on hospital wards, in clinics, in GP practices and in the community, supporting nurses with personal care, observations and the running of the ward. In the NHS most posts are at Band 2 or 3 and are applied for on NHS Jobs; private hospitals and staffing agencies usually ask for a CV.
If you have worked in care, you already have much of what wards look for: personal care, observations, moving and handling and calm communication. Your CV should make that overlap obvious, in the words of the advert.
Whatever the job, the UK CV format applies: your name and contact details, a short profile, experience with the most recent first, then education and skills. No photo, age or date of birth.
Two or three lines: the wards or services you know (or want), the patients you have supported and one strength you can prove, such as staying calm when a patient deteriorates.
Observations (NEWS2), blood glucose, ECG recording, venepuncture if you are signed off, personal care, pressure area care, food and fluid charts, admissions and discharges.
The Care Certificate, Basic Life Support, moving and handling, safeguarding adults and children, infection control, and an enhanced DBS, with the year of each.
Each job with the ward, home or service, then what you did and how you worked with the team: escalating concerns, handovers, supporting families.
Care homes, home care, support work and caring for a relative all count. Say what you did, without naming the person.
Days, nights, weekends or bank shifts. Wards plan rotas weeks ahead, so this helps.

There are no set entry qualifications, although many employers ask for good English and maths and some care experience. Most train you on the job, including the Care Certificate. List any health and social care qualification, such as a diploma or NVQ, in your education section.
The Care Certificate is a set of 15 standards that new healthcare support workers and care workers in England are expected to meet. If you have it, put it under training with the year. If you are working towards it, say so.
Lead with what the two have in common: personal care, observations, moving and handling, record keeping and working with nurses. Use the ward’s own words from the job description, and give one example of spotting and escalating a concern.
