When a one page CV works best
A one page CV suits school leavers, students, graduates, part-time and casual jobs, and careers fairs where a recruiter reads in seconds. Some employers and schemes ask for one page outright.
One Page draws your CV at full size, then makes the text and spacing a little smaller until it fits, stopping at a size that stays readable, so a very long CV can still run onto a second page. Oxford, Richmond and Compact use smaller type and tighter spacing to fit more in.
Cut before you shrink
Small type is not a fix for too many words. Trim older roles to a line and keep bullet points to one or two lines.
Put the best match first
Lead with the experience that fits the job, and drop anything that does not help.
Do not go too small
If the text is hard to read when printed, you need fewer words, not a smaller font.
Two pages is fine for most
With several years of relevant experience, a two-page CV is normal in the UK.
