Customer service cover letter example

Aaron Bell, Customer Service Advisor, energy supplier · eighteen months in a broadband contact centre

Dear Ms Okafor,

I would like to apply for the Customer Service Advisor role in your Sunderland contact centre. I have spent eighteen months handling calls and live chats for a broadband provider, and I enjoy the part of the job many people dread: the customer who calls in angry and leaves happy.

I handle around 60 calls and chats a day, logging each one in Salesforce. My quality scores have been above the team target every month this year, and I was asked to help train the last two groups of new starters on our complaints process.

Your advert mentions billing queries and customers in vulnerable circumstances. I have completed my current employer’s vulnerability training, and I am used to explaining bills, payment plans and meter readings clearly and patiently.

I can start after two weeks’ notice and can work evenings and Saturdays. Thank you for your time.

Yours sincerely,
Aaron Bell

Customer service cover letters: your questions

What should I put in a customer service cover letter?

The channels you have worked on, one real result, one short example of solving a customer’s problem, and when you can work. Keep it to four short paragraphs.

How do I write one with no contact centre experience?

Use any job where you served the public: retail, hospitality, reception or volunteering. Talk about staying calm, listening and putting things right.

Should I mention targets?

Yes, if you met them. Contact centres run on measures such as quality scores and resolution rates. Give the real figure, or say you were consistently above target if you were.
