Care worker cover letter example

Megan Price, Care Assistant, care home · moving into care from hospitality

Dear Ms Rowe,

I am applying for the Care Assistant role at Willowbank House. I have worked in hospitality for five years, and for the last two I have also helped to care for my grandmother, who has dementia. That has made me sure that care is the work I want to do.

At home I help my grandmother with washing, dressing and meals, and I have learned how much the small things matter: her own routine, her music and time to talk. At work I am used to long shifts on my feet, staying calm when it is busy and keeping careful records, such as allergy notes and fridge temperature checks.

I have completed online courses in dementia awareness and moving and handling, and I am keen to complete the Care Certificate with you. I can work days, nights and weekends, and I have a full UK driving licence.

Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the chance to visit and meet the team.

Kind regards,
Megan Price

What to mention in a care worker cover letter

Keep it to one page. Pick what the advert stresses most, and give an example for each point.

Looking after a relative, volunteering or support work, described without private details.

  3. The values

Dignity, respect, patience and kindness, shown through a short example rather than listed.

The Care Certificate, moving and handling, dementia awareness, first aid and an enhanced DBS, or that you are happy to train.

  5. Availability and driving

Days, nights and weekends, and a licence and car for home care.

Care worker cover letters: your questions

What should I write in a care cover letter with no experience?

Why you want to work in care, and real examples that show kindness, patience and reliability: caring for a relative, volunteering, or a job where people relied on you. Say you are happy to train, including the Care Certificate.

Should I say why I want to work in care?

Yes. One honest sentence about why matters more to a care manager than a list of adjectives.

Do I need a cover letter for a care job?

Not always: many providers use a short online form. If you send a CV by email, or the advert asks for a letter, a short one helps.
